the plastic converting industry.
Bioplastics are plastics made from renewable agricultural raw materials such as starch, sugar or plant oil.
Bioplastics can replace petrochemical plastics in many products. Bioplastics are environmental friendly,
reducing global warming and improve ecology. Examples of bioplastics are Poly Lactic Acid (PLA),
Poly Butylene Succinic (PBS) and Poly Hydroxyl Alkanoates (PHA).
Although bioplastics have several advantages but there are drawbacks as well. They are not price
competitive. Their properties are often inferior to conventional plastics and present some processing problems.
These drawbacks are eliminated or improved by modifications or so called compounding.
